How to work through self-doubt

Hi love!

I hope you had the loveliest week. This week I went through a short stint of self-doubt and anxiety. 90% of the time I feel really good about my self, my life, and my direction but every once in a while that pesky negative inner voice will sneak in and try to tell me otherwise.

Whenever this happens, I try to look inward and dig a little deeper to see where it could be stemming from. Oftentimes the catalyst will be easy to spot—feeling rushed at work, not getting selected for a project, having something unexpected come up. What can be harder to spot is the “why”.

This week my insecurities came from

  • comparison with other creators and business owners
  • the ambiguity of my life currently (waiting for visa windows etc.)
  • imposter syndrome as a business owner

If you’re also familiar with these little moments of self-doubt, I thought I’d share some journal prompts that really helped me this week.

  1. What specific event triggered these feelings of self-doubt? Write about the situation in detail.
  2. If my best friend was experiencing these same doubts, what would I say to them?
  3. What are 3 recent accomplishments that prove my capabilities?
  4. How have I grown in the past year, both personally and professionally?
  5. What would my younger self think of where I am today?
  6. What are the real facts of this situation vs. the stories I’m telling myself?
  7. What can I learn from this moment of self-doubt? How can it help me grow?
  8. What small step can I take today to move forward despite these feelings?

Sometimes I just need a reminder that self-doubt is a normal part of growth. We can’t eliminate it completely but we can learn to work through it constructively. Hopefully this email brought you the positive reminder you needed to push through 💌

Two more things

Digital gardens. I recently discovered the idea of digital gardens and fell in love with the structured yet unstructured nature of it. Here’s a great article explaining the history and ethos of digital gardens but essentially it’s meant to be an online space that lives in between a notebook and a blog. Thinking about writing a full article about this soon so let me know if you’d be interested in reading that!

An interesting way to learn language. I don’t remember where I learned about Language Transfer but I used it a lot when I first started learning Italian. I started my French learning recently so I redownloaded the app and have been going through their French course. Language Transfer uses “The Thinking Method” which helps you build and refine your understanding of the language, making it easier to remember.

This week

I posted my April plan with me video this week so if you want to spend a little time planning for the month, make sure to check that out!

See you next sunday!
